Our History

Good Shepherd Baptist Missions was founded by Bro. Dayton Barnes and Dr. Darwin Easter in August of 1993. At a youth camp in July 1993, Bro. Barnes' son, Robert Barnes, committed his life to be a soulwinner. The next day, July 13, 1993, Robert Barnes tragically died. In honor of his commitment to be a soulwinner, Good Shepherd Baptist Missions was founded to help keep soul winners winning souls. In the early days of GSBM, a helps ministry was formed to provide emergency assistance to full time Christian workers in their time of need. Later, Good Shepherd Baptist Missions embarked on providing training to Pastors and Missionaries to become more effective in their callings through the Pastor’s Training School (PTS) and Missionary Training School (MTS). 

After the retirement of Dr. Darwin Easter in 2014, GSBM continued under the directorship of Bro. Mark Gostlin. In July of 2020, Bro. Chad W. Sellers became the director of GSBM. The ministry was transferred from Victory Baptist Church in Alexander City, AL to Gospel Light Baptist Church in Jackson, TN. An emphasis has been placed on training and teaching, both here in the U.S. and internationally.
